Have you ever woken up one morning and thought, “Boy, would I love a sweet something to eat for breakfast today!” Maybe it’s a crisp fall morning, just chilly enough for frost to twinkle on the russet-colored leaves—perfect sweater weather for diving headfirst into a sweet treat while cradling a steaming cup of hot coffee.

Cozy Comfort

Picture this: It’s the ideal fall morning. The birds are chirping, perhaps complaining about not being able to find their breakfast, and the sun is rising over the russet trees, casting a dazzling hot pink hue over the sparkling frost-covered grass.

You’re snuggled in your cozy kitchen on your favorite tufted pillow, your oversized sweater enveloping you like a warm hug from an old friend. Your hands are wrapped around a steaming cup of coffee, contemplating whether it would be socially acceptable to marry your mug.

But wait! The only thing missing is a delicious sweet breakfast to complement the rich coffee flavors. But what can you whip up that takes little effort, so you can soak in the beautiful view and not just stare longingly at the pancake mix in the pantry?

Savoring the Moment

Or really, let’s imagine it’s a glorious spring morning. The trees are bursting with green, offering a colorful reprieve from those long, gray winter months. Spring flowers are popping up like nature’s own confetti, celebrating at the top of their leafy lungs.

The birds are chirping, orchestrating a symphony as the sunrise pours a beautiful golden glow through a thin blanket of fog hovering over the purple-filled flowers. You’re on the porch, wrapped in your softest blanket like a cloud, soaking up the sun while your trusty cup of coffee steams beside you.

The only missing element? A scrumptious sweet breakfast to complement the rich coffee flavors. But again, what could you possibly make that would take little effort and little time, so you can avoid any major kitchen disasters and instead stay on the porch, enjoying this edible masterpiece?

Effortless Brunch: Impress Your Guests Without Missing a Beat

Now, let’s shake things up. Picture this: you’re entertaining a group of your closest friends and family. They’ve gathered for brunch, and you want to impress them with a dish that’s as easy to prepare as it is delicious, while also ensuring you actually have time to socialize and survive their endless questions about your love life (or lack thereof).

I know it sounds hard to believe, but I’ve got the solution to all these dilemmas rolled into one fabulous recipe. Trust me, it’s a game-changer! Who knew breakfast could be so easy?

Mastering the Art of Pancakes: Turning Chaos into Comfort

Nothing quite says “delicious sweet breakfast” like a pancake. Unfortunately, pancakes can turn the morning into a kitchen battlefield. You find yourself manning the griddle, flipping patty after patty like you’re running a pancake factory—complete with the stress of a morning rush.

But why be a slave to the stovetop? Let the oven do the heavy lifting! This recipe is for one gigantic pancake—think of it as the superhero of breakfast. Just dump all the batter into a big pan, toss it in the oven, and kick back while it bakes. It’s like having your own breakfast assistant (who doesn’t complain or steal your coffee)! What could be better than that? One big pancake means one and done—no flipping, no mess, and definitely no pancake anxiety. Now that’s a breakfast win!

A Simple Recipe for a Show-Stopping Breakfast

Of course, I can’t claim all the glory for this genius creation. Known affectionately as German Pancakes or Dutch Babies (no, they don’t actually come with a passport), this delightful dish has been a breakfast champion for ages! This particular recipe is our go-to for those special mornings when we want to impress our taste buds but don’t have the luxury of being tied to the stove.

The best part? The sauce can be whipped up days in advance, making this indulgent treat feel even more decadent. Who says you can’t live the high life while still wearing your pajamas?

Just place the cream cheese, sour cream and brown sugar in a food processor and watch the magic happen!

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 15 minutes
Servings: 6
Course: Breakfast

Ingredients

Cream Cheese Sauce
  • 3 oz cream cheese softened
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
Toppings
  • 1 to 2 cups apples 1/4" thick slices
  • 1/4 cup walnuts
German Pancake
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs large
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp butter

Equipment

  • 1 medium sized cast iron skillet (10")
  • 1 food processor or blender

Method

Cream Cheese Sauce
  1. In a food processor or mixer, add all of the ingredients for the cream cheese sauce and blend until creamy and smooth.
  2. Place in an air tight container and keep in the refrigerator until ready to use on the pancake. We do not recommend storing in the refrigerator for more than 5 days.
Toppings
  1. Core and slice your apples. (We like to use an apple slicer for this). After slicing the apples with the apple slicer, then slice the apples again so that they're about 1/4" thick.
  2. Toast the walnuts in a skillet (optional)
German Pancake
  1. Preheat oven to 450℉
  2. Place butter in the cast iron skillet and place in the oven to heat for 5 to 6 minutes. Butter should be melted and bubbling.
  3. While skillet is heating, mix together all of the ingredients for the German Pancake in a mixing bowl.
  4. Once skillet is heated, carefully remove from the oven and pour in the pancake mixture.
  5. Return to the oven for an additional 10 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Allow the pancake to cool for a few minutes and then add all topping ingredients.
  7. For a prettier presentation, add the cream cheese mixture first, then arrange apple slices in a spiral shape like flower petals and then sprinkle nuts on top.
  8. Serve while still hot and delicious!
  9. Enjoy and happy eating!
