When I first heard they were making the movie ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘, uncertainty washed over me. What could I expect? Would it make me want to wave my wand in delight or throw it out the window in despair? What if it turned out to be like that awkward relative at family gatherings—trying too hard and leaving everyone cringing? Would it ruin my beloved Harry Potter experience forever?

Exploring New Adventures in a Familiar World: A Joyful Journey with Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts

Luckily, it turns out that my worries were entirely unwarranted. Once the movie started, I quickly realized it was a completely standalone adventure, existing in its own magical time zone. It had its own distinct charm and was as entertaining as a mischievous Niffler on a treasure hunt. Spoiler alert: it didn’t dethrone Harry Potter or take a sledgehammer to my nostalgia. In fact, it felt more like a delightful spin-off that I could enjoy without having to choose sides. So, I was delighted when I found that my new Harry Potter knitting book had patterns for both ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’.

Embracing the Whimsy: A Scarf Inspired by a Menagerie of Fantastic Beasts

A blue and cream colored knitted scarf with images from the movie 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them', a suitcase, a hat and a pocket watch.

The greatest charm of this movie lies in its delightful menagerie of cute, quirky, and occasionally downright terrifying beasts. Seriously, there’s a beast for every mood! And no matter how bizarre they are, Nute loves every single one—probably because he has never had a pet rock.

Speaking of love, this adorable scarf pattern perfectly captures that charm by incorporating at least four different beasts! And let’s not forget their cozy little digs. The iconic suitcase acts like a magical TARDIS for all the furry (and not-so-furry) friends. Honestly, if this scarf had a personality, it would be the quirky, lovable friend who always shows up to the party with a bizarre collection of snacks; you never know what you’ll get, but it’s sure to be entertaining!

Yarn Adventures: Crafting Comfort in Style

One of the best perks of this scarf is that finding the yarn is easy; As easy as finding a cat video on the internet. The pattern calls for worsted weight yarn, which, let’s be honest, is basically the bread and butter of all local craft stores.

For this masterpiece, I ordered some Caron Simply Soft yarn in a speckled honeycomb color from Amazon—because who doesn’t love the thrill of impulse shopping from the couch in their pajamas?

You can find the links to the yarns I used here!

This yarn is so soft and the speckles add a unique eye-catching effect.

Then, I snagged some Hobby Lobby brand yarn in a color that’s almost as fabulous as Nute’s teal jacket (seriously, if that jacket were a person, it would definitely be the life of the party).

Timeless Elegance: A Nod to 1920s Glamour Through Modern Knitting

A teal and cream knitted scarf with images from the movie 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them'. A 20's era hat, a suitcase, other luggage, and a pocket watch.

The combination created a delightful contrast: the deep, dark teal yarn gives off mysterious vibes while the speckled browns add a dash of texture, making the whole scarf look like it time-traveled straight from the 1920s—like a glamorous flapper decided to hop on the knitting trend. You can’t help but think it might just spark a bit of nostalgia, or at least a sudden urge to dance the Charleston!

A Knitter’s Dream: The Magic of an Interchangeable Needle Set

Let’s not forget to give a shout-out to the magical equipment that made this scarf possible! A few years ago, I splurged on a 40-Piece Interchangeable Aluminum Knitting Set by Boye, and honestly, it felt like finding a golden ticket in a chocolate bar.

This kit has become my knitting fairy godmother! The kit is packed with interchangeable knitting needles ranging from size “Where Did I Leave That?” to size “Oops, Too Big!” Plus, it offers an assortment of cables in various lengths to accommodate all my wild project ambitions.

Gone are the days when I rummaged through a bottomless pit of circular needles, praying for a knitting miracle. I used to feel like I needed an “accio” spell just to unearth the right one! Now, it all stays neatly contained, allowing me to focus on the important things—like deciding what to binge-watch while I knit!

I used a size 7 circular needle for this project.

Unconventional Knitting Tools: Creativity Meets Functionality!

And how can we overlook the other magical tools in our knitting arsenal? Take my super savvy knitting ring, for instance! This little gem was lovingly crafted by my dad out of a fork—yes, a fork! Who needs fancy gadgets when you have a silverware enthusiast at home? But if you’re not feeling quite that crafty, you can snag a similar one on Amazon (just don’t ask if it comes with utensils).

Knitting Rings

When I first ventured into the vibrant world of multi-colored yarn, I realized that a knitting ring served as my ticket to speedy success and a tangle-free experience. It’s like having a mini loom on my finger, ready to whip up cozy concoctions while I look like a finger architect! Who knew knitting could come with its own jewelry?
